Podcast: Members of Asian American and Pacific Islander Gun Owners (AAPIGO) Discuss Minority Gun Rights

Image
Scott talked about his family’s run-in with racist intimidation that inspired him to buy a gun at the beginning of the pandemic. Bobby also gave insight into how this activism plays into the greater political awakening of Asian-Americans in the wake of rising hate crimes. Plus, the three talk about their shared background in the tech world and how that informs their activism. Give it a listen. I think you’ll really enjoy it! And, when you’re done with The Weekly Reload Podcast, check out the  new Active Self Protection Podcast  where I’ll be giving a weekly news update. You can find the full podcast  here .

Biden Bans Russian Ammo

Image
Wolf Performance Ammunition is One of Many Russian Ammo Manufacturers Affected by the ban What Does a Ban on Russian Ammo Mean? In a stroke of the pen, Joe Biden has effectively banned the import of all ammunition manufactured in Russia, citing the alleged use of nerve agents by the superpower. This move hasn't taken effect yet, but this unilateral move by Biden's state department belies a deep hostility towards gun owners, especially disadvantaged gun owners, or, dare I say it, poor people .  This may seem like a leap in logic, so let's break it down a little bit:  When you hear "Russian", a barrage of stereotypes spring to mind: Bears, Beards, Big guys named Ivan. This author is ethnically Russian, and while those stereotypes are largely accurate, Russian ammo is appealing for more than those reasons. Firstly, Russian ammo is cheap. The Eastern Bloc has a much smaller civilian and military arms market than the US, while still having leftover infrastructure fr...

TIL: Moms Demand Action from White Supremacists?

Credit to  @Momsatarms  on Twitter. Just wow. What a racist statement. Apparently, it’s “irresponsible“ to highlight facts about  new gun owners and that the largest makeup of them are African Americans. No words, other  than this is quite possibly the most negative racially motivated thing we have caught her saying (other  than this ). https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/1414265036122427398?s=21 Edit: here’s the article Watts is seething over. As you can see, her base (her targeted audience) is waking up to the importance of the 2A: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/interactive/2021/anti-gun-gun-owners/ Fits the pattern though, as Everytown (parent organization to Shannon’s org Moms Demands  Action) seems to have a systemic...

Refuting Joe Cotchett’s Talking Points on NBC Bay Area Interview

Image
On June 17th,  NBC News Bay Area  featured Brian Wang, owner of Monarch Defense and co-host of our 7/31 community event, in a debate against Joe Cochett of the Sam Licardo Administration in response to recently passed gun control measures. Brian Wang provided some excellent points and rebuttals, but only so much information can be discussed in the limited format. AAPI GO strongly condemns these measures so we have provided a written response which expands on the seven main points made by Mr. Cotchett below:   Written Response to Joe Cotchett’s Talking Points on NBC Bay Area Interview  The Founding Fathers had no concept of advanced weaponry at the time of writing the Bill of Rights. This is historically ignorant. While AR15s did not exist at the time of the ratification of the Bill of Rights, the Founding Fathers -- specifically James Madison, the author of the Second Amendment -- were well aware of the existence of repeating firearms (mainly rifles and some handgun...
